Ben J Character, DVM is originally from Oxford, Alabama. During his first year of veterinary school he finished a Bachelor of Science in Animal and Dairy Science from Auburn University. After three more years he received his Doctorate of Veterinary Medicine in 1998.
Upon graduating, Dr. Character practiced large and small animal medicine and surgery in Murray, Kentucky. During that time he was also personal assistant to Dr. A.D. Elkins, board certified veterinary surgeon.
In July 2002, Dr. Character completed a comprehensive internship at the Mississippi State University teaching hospital. During this time he performed clinical duties and research, which was subsequently published in the Journal of the American Animal Hospital Association.
In addition to his academic writing, Dr. Character is the author of over 100 articles and literary columns published in major periodicals such as Gun Dog, Retriever Journal, and Ducks Unlimited Magazine. Most recently he has authored and self-published the book, Sports Medicine for The Retriever.
From 2002-2004 Dr. Character practiced in the West Alabama area helping the clients of other area veterinarians and performing special procedures. Mobile Veterinary Service was started in 2006 so that Dr. Character could bring his own unique form of practice to your farm or home.
